Managing Director, Donald Morrison
In these challenging times, the health, safety and wellbeing of all those who work with and for us, as well as the general public, is always our number one priority.
On 23 March 2020, the Prime Minister made an address to the nation in which he outlined changes to the national response to COVID-19.
Since then, the UK Government has reiterated that critical industries must continue to operate, which includes a small proportion of our own employees.
The majority of our workers and management are furloughed, however we have some operatives still working on sites that are considered ‘essential’ or where operating procedures are allowing safe working conditions. These sites and contracts will remain operational, where we are able to implement the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Construction Leadership Council and endorsed by Public Health England, HSE & Build UK.
The Government has also said that construction sites should remain operational – where it is safe and practicable to do so, provided Government guidance and the appropriate safety measures including social distancing are followed.
This message was further strengthened in a letter to our industry from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the Right Honourable Alok Sharma MP, on 31 March 2020. At Palmers, we remain committed to playing our part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to follow the current guidance on COVID-19 from the Government.
